| Volume III The Free
Form |
This
is definitely for the advanced classical pianist or the Jazz
player who has already studied and played professionally.
This volume covers free form playing (i.e. performing and
inventing music that is totally spontaneous) in four areas
of discipline: Modal, Tonal, Polytonal and Atonal. Each area
contains the theoretical explanation of its principles plus,
exercises, etudes, and most important of all at this stage,
original compositions that perfectly illustrate each area
of free form improvising.
Jacks compositions in this volume are from his orchestral,
chamber, choral and solo works and the chapter on total improvising
recapitulates in condensed form the diatonic and chromatic
principles of harmony, with musical examples by Jack and his
students.
